Another iTunes rival: Best Buy Digital Music Store

Best Buy has announced its own digital music download service called the Best Buy Digital Music Store. Best Buy is partnering with RealNetwork whose Rhapsody 4.0 music service will power the new site and SanDisk who will offer the Sansa e200R Rhapsody MP3 player series (available as a 2GB model for $140 USD or an 8GB model for $250 USD) which has been optimized for the service.

The Best Buy Digital Music Store will offer customers the option of permanently downloading files as well as using an unlimited subscription service. Songs will be priced at 99 cents each and the subscription will cost $14.99 USD a month.

The Best Buy Digital Music Store will launch on October 15 with an exclusive track from Diddy’s upcoming album Press Play. There is no word on whether the service will be offered in Canada where Best Buy currently offers downloads through Bonfire.
