Bill Gates to step down from Microsoft in 2008

Bill Gates has announced his that his role at Microsoft, the company he founded with Paul Allen in 1975, will be reduced further by 2008. Effective immediately, he will no longer serve as the company’s chief software architect and a two-year transition is now in place for him to completely give up all day-to-day activities. Ray Ozzie will replace him as the company’s chief software architect and Craig Mundie will take on the new title of Chief Research and Strategy Officer.

But he’s not going away completely. Bill will remain the company’s chairman and will act as an adviser on “key development projects”.
