Google to do video-on-demand

Instead of the rumoured Google PC, Google has announced that its latest service: the Google Video Store where users will be able to rent or buy videos. Among the first content to be announced to the “available soon” service will be television shows from CBS (including the last season of Survivor and I Love Lucy) as well as NBA basketball games.

Google will also offer more recent TV shows such as NCIS and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, but only as 24 hour rentals for $1.99 USD. NBA games, including classic games, will be available as permanent purchases for $3.95 USD. Other content will be available in non-copy protected format (eg, content from U.K.’s ITV)

Most content will be copy protected and will not be transferrable to different devices.
