HTC plans: More music and good-bye IR

HTC

HTC announced that upcoming mobile phones will feature improved music playing support. Not only will it add more storage capacity but it is looking at hardware solutions to improve music management. Today, HTC uses Microsoft’s mobile version of Media Player. Likely, this means hardware buttons on upcoming phones to make it easier to do things like control volume and control playlists.

The news is not as rosy when it comes to infrared. Already missing from recently announced phones, don’t expect to see it make a comeback in future phones. HTC has decided that IR is no longer a necessity.

HTC has also revealed that it could begin to use the Symbian OS in the future although there are no plans in place to do so yet.
