Nikon exiting film camera business

Nikon is halting production of all but two film cameras and most lenses in yet another sign that digital photography has not only caught on but is becoming the defacto photography medium. Nikon did not disclose specific timings for the discontinuations. For now at least, Nikon will continue to offer the F6 pro-oriented camera and lenses as well as the FM10.

Film camera sales at Nikon’s camera and imaging division dropped to 3 percent in the last fiscal year from 16 percent the year before. Meanwhile digital camera sales have jumpted to 75 percent of total sales (from 47 percent the previous year).
