Upgrade coming in 2007 to Cingular HSDPA

Cingular’s HSDPA service could hit speeds of up to 7.2Mbps as early as January according to Qualcomm officials. To take a advantage of the new download speeds, new data cards will be required unfortunately. And upload speeds will remain at 384Kbps.

Given that new hardware will be required, Cingular’s current handsets will remain limited to 1.8Mbps downloads. Hopefully new handsets will also be announced to take advantage of the higher possible speeds.
