VITO Technology has released VITO SmartMap for Windows Mobile 5.0. It is a Pocket PC application which uses vector and raster maps in conjunction with any NMEA protocal GPS receiver.
VITO SmartMap is actually two programs (SmartMap and MapManager) in one. SmartMap enables you to view maps, determine your position on the map, view the current track (trail of moves), save the current track, and export tracks as ESRI Shape files. MapManager is a desktop program (Win98/Me/2000/XP) that prepares JPG images of scanned paper maps and assembles vector maps for SmartMap. MapManager imports vector maps in ESRI Shape format and calibrates JPG images of maps, saving results as VTM files, format specifically designed by VITO Technology to accelerate work with maps on Pocket PC with its limited resources.
