Cisco iPhone trademark and Apple

Apple

One of the things that had me most puzzled during the Apple iPhone unveiling was the fact that Apple knew that the iPhone name was not only trademarked by Cisco but that they were using it for their newly launched line of VOiP devices. So why announce the new phone as the iPhone? Would Apple change the name closer to launch or was something else in the works? According to Cisco, the answer is likely the latter. Apparently, discussions have been taking place between the two companies and a final agreement could be in place as early as next Tuesday.

Terms of this agreement have not been disclosed and Apple has not made any comment (yet) in regards to this story.
