Hewlett-Packard to outsource cameras

Hewlett-Packard

HP announced today that it will stop designing and manufacturing its own digital cameras. Instead, the company plans to partner with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) who would handle everything from design, manufacture and distribution. HP will simply slap its brand name on the finished product.

The move is expected to allow HP to focus on its Print 2.0 strategy which focuses on delivering a next-generation digital printing platform that increases print speeds and lowers the cost of printing for high-volume commercial markets; making it easier to print from the web; and, extending HP’s digital content creation and publishing platforms across all customer segments.

HP expects to have its new camera partnership in place in the first half of 2008.
