Kingston ups SDHC capacity to 8GB

Kingston announced that it expanded its line of Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) memory cards with 3 cards offering a capacity of 8GB. The new cards are available in Class 2 (miminum data transfer rate of 2MB/sec), 4 (miminum data transfer rate of 4MB/sec) and 6 (miminum data transfer rate of 6MB/sec) speed ratings. Kingston also added both Class 4 and Class 6 4GB SDHC cards to its lineup.

The SDHC format is an update to the SD format that allows capacities to go beyond the 2GB limit faced by the older format. Unfortunately, only SDHC-compatible devices can take advantage of these new capacities.

In terms of pricing, the 8GB Class 6 is available for $138USD directly from Kingston. In comparison, an 8GB Class 4 card will sell for $124 USD.
