Low power 3G chipsets coming

NTT DoCoMo has announced that it has successfully tested a low power consumption 3G chipset. To be used in forthcoming Super 3G handsets, the chip was able to achieve transmissions speeds as high as 200Mbps over a high-speed wireless network with power consumption not exceeding 0.1W thanks to DoCoMo’s proprietary signal-processing technology.

Super 3G is also called Long Term Evolution (LTE) and is a next generation network. In other words, it might be a while yet before we see it in our neighbourhoods (especially in Canada).

There is no word on when this chipset will reach the market and make its way into future devices.
