Back in January, I told you about how Socket was planning plans to introduce a line of handheld mobile computer products. Details have started to emerge and Socket Communications, Inc. is transforming itself into Socket Mobile, Inc. The name change reflects Socket’s recently announced plans to expand into the systems business by introducing a line of handheld mobile computer products specifically designed to meet the business needs of mobile workers involved in small-to-medium scale deployments.
Along with the new name comes a new web site. It features a few details and a picture of a concept device that will run Windows Mobile 5.0 and come with both SD and CF slots. A second concept should be unveiled “next week” along with additional details on the first concept.
The new Socket mobile devices are expected in the second quarter.
