I wonder if we will ever the elusive Linux-based Palm OS II operating system. Jon Rubinstein, the new Palm chairman, indicated that the company is about 18 months away from releasing devices that would use the new operating system. “It’s a probably good target,” Rubinstein said. “These things take time.”

This is not the first time that the release of the new Palm OS has slipped.

Jon Rubinstein joins Palm after leading the Apple iPod division as part of the acquisition of 27 percent stake of Palm by Elevation Partners.
