In an interview with Neteco (Mobinaute’s parent company) that focused on the upcoming iPAQ 500 Voice Messenger, the iPAQ product manager for HP France also revealed at least part of HP’s strategy for Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for existing devices. The news is bound to disappoint many. The only iPAQs that will see the upgrade are the “series 2000” which I interpret to mean the hx2000 series rather than the older h2000 series. The hw6800 and hw6900 series were both specifically mentioned as not in line to receive the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade.
The upgrade is expected to be available in the next couple of months but specific details (including pricing) are still being worked out.
It remains to be seen if this will be a global strategy or limited to France or Europe.
