Still no date for Canadian launch of the iPhone

Apple iPhone (2007)With the US launch date set for the Apple iPhone, attention is starting to turn to other when other countries will get it. Here in Canada, there is little change since early rumours were dispelled. Rogers Canada, the only national GSM carrier (and likely the only carrier that could offer the iPhone) has indicated that it has made little progress with Apple to bring it north of the border.

“The truth is we aren’t very far with Apple,” Bill Linton, Rogers’ chief financial officer, told a conference last month. “They’re concentrating on this launch and the U.S., and when they decide to turn their mind to other markets, we’ll be in line.”

I suspect that Apple will first focus on larger markets. It does not help that one consulting firm found that Canadians are more price conscious than our US neighbours and that the iPhone would be a tougher sell here.
