Acer will launch smartphones under its own brand starting in early 2009. According to Jim Wong, Acer senior corporate vice president and president of IT product business group, the company will focus on Western Europe and Russia initially.
In preparation for the launch, Acer is expanding its handset business unit to 500 employees by the end of the year.
Earlier this year, Acer acquired E-TEN. It will be interesting to see just how much of an E-TEN heritage the new Acer mobile phones have.
