Google Android SDK gets a major update

Google Android

Google promised a new version of the Android SDK at the beginning of the month and they have now delivered with the release of a major update for the Android SDK. We’re excited about the progress that we’ve made and look forward to making additional updates in the future as the platform evolves towards production-readiness.

Catchily called m5-rc14, the new version features a completely new user interface (but still a work in progress), layout animations for applications, geo-coding (translation of an address into a coordinate and vice-versa), new media codecs like OGG Vorbis, MIDI, and OTA audio formats and more. The upgrade will hopefully address developer concerns that the platform was difficult to work with.
