HP UMPCs coming soon?

Hewlett-Packard

A conversation between CNET and members of HP over a seafood dinner appears to have revealed that HP is putting the final touches on its first UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer). Few details are available beyond the fact that the said device could hit the market as soon as late spring. One HP person described the price point as, “You won’t even need to consider this purchase. You’ll buy it like a handphone without a thought.”

Apparently, the device will measure no more than 25 centimeters (10 inches) and will be an extremely portable and lightweight device. HP also hinted that many complaints about UMPCs would be addressed by their offering. One area of promised improvement will be battery life. HP may also offer custom skins for the device intended to appeal to both professionals and youths.

An official launch is expected within the next few months.
