HSPA coming to MIDs courtesy of Ericsson

Ericsson announced a new collaboration with Intel that will bring HSPA to mobile Internet devices (MIDs). The new solution will work with the Intel Moorestown platform and is expected to be released in 2009/2010 timeframe.

Moorestown will consist of a SoC (codenamed Lindcroft) which offers a 45nm processor, GPU, and memory controller on a single chip and a new chipset (codenamed Langwell) that will include controllers for USB, PCI Express and more. It is expected to draw significantly less power than the current generation of Atom-based devices.

The Moorestown platform will also support for WiMAX, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and mobile TV.
