HTC may be revamping its UMPC strategy in light of the success of the (not-so) low-cost (anymore) Asus Eee (and its many competitors). Peter Chou, CEO and president of HTC, will continue to focus on enhancing the mobile user Internet experience but that we could see changes in its UMPC deployment strategy.
Chou did not shed light on what he meant but DigiTimes sources report that HTC is developing a new MID using Intel’s Atom and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets. The first such device could be released as early as the second half of the year.
Chou also indicated that HTC will release 10 new handsets in the second half of 2008, including new models in the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro lines (hopefully those are the North American models).
