In an interview with CIO UK, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed that the Zune platform will be ported to Windows Mobile. According to Ballmer,
Now, we built the Zune hardware with the Zune software – and what you’ll see more and more over time is that the Zune software will also be ported to and be more important not just with the hardware but on the PC, on Windows Mobile devices, etc.
Could we see Zune in Windows Mobile 7? It would certainly allow Microsoft to ditch Windows Media Player Mobile and offer one consistent multimedia platform across devices.
Ballmer did not provide any timelines. Hopefully Microsoft will shed more light on this soon.
