LG Electronics third largest mobile phone manufacturer in 2008

According to Digitimes, LG Electronics closed off 2008 with shipments of just over 100 million mobile phones. It was enough to give the company third place in global shipments for the year behind Nokia with 470 million and Samsung with 200 million mobile phones shipped. A year ago, LG held down the fifth position.

Rounding out the top five are Motorola, which fell from third place in 2007, with 99.9 million and Sony Ericsson, down from fourth a year ago, with 96.6 million shipments.

Together, the top five accounted for nearly 1 billion mobile phones!
