RIM buys GPS company Dash Navigation

Research In Motion

Research In Motion has acquired Dash Navigation. The purchase will allow RIM to improve the GPS capabilities of its devices by providing its own GPS mapping solutions, including real-time traffic information.

Dash Navigation offers Dash Express, a two-way Internet-connected GPS navigation system, that can offer more information than GPS-only systems. The company had also offered its own hardware but discontinued that part of its business last year to focus on licensing its solution to other device manufacturers.

Further details of the acquisition are not yet available.
