That report on the weekend about an upcoming Nokia announcement for a Maemo-powered N900 with support for the 850/1900/2100MHz bands was no more than a fabrication. The mysterious source that suggested that an announcement was forthcoming took the liberty of adding the last sentence to that communication from Nokia. It looks a bit different when you take that line out:
Regarding the network bands, you are correct – we announced a WCDMA 900/1700/2100 MHz bands. We have not made any announcements regarding an 850/1900/2100 MHz band device.
An announcement will be forthcoming.
While we may still see an announcement from Nokia during Nokia World later this week (or still later), it certainly looks a bit more unlikely than it did two days ago.
