Asus details Eee Pad tablet launch plans

Asus first unveiled its tablet device plans at Computex earlier this year. After an earnings call yesterday, Asustek CEO Jerry Shen shed new light on its tablet roadmap. He also revealed that the company is planning an Android tablet. In all, three tablets are currently in the works, one based on Windows 7, one on Windows Embedded Compact 7, and the aforementioned Android one.

The Windows 7 tablet, the Eee Pad EP121, will be released first, possibly as early as December. Featuring a 12-inch touchscreen display, it will also come with a docking station that will transform it into a laptop. It will be powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Windows 7 Home Premium. It will sell for about US$1,000.

The Windows Embedded Compact 7 Eee Pad tablet will launch in January 2011. It will come with a 10-inch touchscreen display but will no include a docking station. Powered by an ARM processor, it will sell for between US$399 and US$499.

The Android tablet will launch last around March 2011. It will sell for less than US$399 but Shen provided little information about it.
