Garmin-Asus planning Windows Phone 7 handset

Garmin-Asus revealed last month that the next six months will be critical to its decision to stay or exit the highly competitive smartphone market. It appears that it is not going out without a fight and is planning to release at least one Windows Phone 7 device.

According to Digitimes, Garmin-Asus will launch Windows Phone 7 smartphones in 2011, possibly as early as the first quarter. There are no additional details though.

Garmin-Asus has already released smartphones based on its own now defunct operating system and Google Android (with the A50 for example). it’s not clear if it is now tying its fortunes to Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system in a last ditch effort to stay in the smartphone business.
