Sprint has firmed up its plans to offer Android upgrades for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. It had originally planned to offer upgrades to Android 2.0 but it has now confirmed 2.1 upgrades instead. Both updates should be out in early Q2 2010 (April maybe?) according to a tweet sent today.
Android update! Upgrades to 2.1 for Hero/Moment now expected early 2Q10. Currently working through options for upgrades w/ HTC and Samsung.
I suspect that the upgrade could leave out some features (like the upcoming Motorola Android 2.1 upgrade has) due to hardware limitations.
Sprint has also not decided whether the update will be delivered OTA, via PC, or even as an in-store upgrade.
Now, if only TELUS could share its upgrade plans…
