HP Airlife smartbook gets FCC filing

We first found out about the HP Airlife through a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The description suggested a smartphone but a new FCC filing suggests that it could be a smartbook instead.

There are few details at this point as HP has requested that most information remains confidential for now. The sole illustration shows where the FCC label would go and also shows the location of the the battery and SIM card. The size suggests a device larger than a smartphone.

Rumours that HP would launch a smartbook go back to September of last year. AT CES 2010, the company showed off an Android-powered netbook/smartbook prototype.

Is HP about to make an entry into the nascent smartbook market with the Compaq AirLife 100? We’ll be watching…
