LG Electronics is the latest to launch its own application store for smartphones and feature phones.

“Today, more and more people want mobile devices that make their lives easier and more exciting through the right combination of applications. To meet this growing demand, we’ve put a great deal of effort into strengthening our application offerings for all types of phone owners,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “By studying customer insights and collaborating with top-level companies, LG is working to produce some of the best applications on the market, and a truly singular mobile experience for our customers.”

The LG Application Store already offers some 3,000 applications ranging from games such as The SIMS 3 to apps for social networking, navigation and mapping, and instant messaging. LG plans to increase the number of apps to 4,000 by the end of the year. About half of the current catalog devoted to feature phones. On the smartphone side, LG is only offering Windows Mobile apps at this time but promises to add Android apps by the end of the year.

The LG Application Store is now open in 23 countries with 10 additional countries to follow later this year. Unfortunately, it is not yet available in Canada or the US.
