Acer reduces 2011 tablet shipment target by 60 percent

Acer

Acer has revised its 2011 tablet shipment target, reducing it by almost 60 percent from its original 5 to 7 million units down to 2.5 to 3 million units. The move comes after Acer missed its last three quarterly forecasts, saw total sales drop 29.2 percent last month, and lost CEO Gianfranco Lanci earlier this year.

Chairman J.T. Wang tried to put a positive spin on the announcement. He expects that the third quarter will be “more stable” and “similar to the second quarter or better.” The fourth quarter should be even better. Acer now expects to sell about 800,000 tablets in both the second and third quarters.
