Amazon tablet to launch in August?

Amazon

Digitimes is reporting that Amazon will launch its rumoured high-end tablet (one of two tablets expected) as early as August or September in order to be ready for the busy Thanksgiving and holiday shopping period. Amazon is targeting sales of about 4 million units in 2011.

Digitimes provides few details about the tablets themselves but indicates that they will be powered by Texas Instruments processors and come with LCD touchscreen displays (rather than e-ink as the Kindle offers). It also supports earlier rumours that Amazon will offer a streaming movie service.

Amazon will continue to sell the Kindle alongside its new tablets.
