Apple looking for second iPad manufacturer?

AppleCall it the iPad 2 Plus or the iPad 3 but Digitimes is again suggesting that Apple will launch later this year. Foxconn will manufacture the new tablet but Apple is looking to a second manufacturer to avoid supply issues. Both Taiwan-based Quanta Computer and Pegatron Technology are mentioned as candidates although Pegatron appears to have the edge due to its rumoured iPhone 5 manufacturing contract.

Apple’s decision may have been prompted by a recent explosion at a Foxconn factory located in Chengdu, China.

Aligning with recent rumours, Digitimes indicates that the iPad 2 Plus will feature a higher resolution display and will be thinner than its predecessors.
