Apple planning cheaper 8GB iPhone 4 alongside new iPhone 5?

AppleCiting “two people with knowledge of the matter,” Reuters is reporting today that Apple will launch a cheaper version of its iPhone 4 within weeks. The new version will come with 8GB of onboard memory rather than the 16 or 32GB available in current models. The exact price has not been revealed.

Reuters also indicates that Apple will launch its next generation iPhone in late September. Supporting earlier claims, its source also added that the iPhone 5 will have a bigger display, an improved antenna and an 8MP camera but will otherwise be very similar to the current iPhone 4.

It’s not clear if Apple will announce the two new iPhones together or with separate announcements and/or events.
