AT&T confirms no iPhone 5 this summer?

AT&T Wireless

According to MacRumors.com, AT&T has apparently confirmed to at least one of its customers that Apple will not launch the iPhone 5 this summer. This report is but the latest in a string of rumours that have suggested that Apple will delay the launch of its next generation to the fall at the earliest.

The AT&T customer was apparently told by a customer care representative that Apple had informed the carrier that no new iPhone would be released in June or July (in which the last few iPhones have been released). The agent provided the following statement:

Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe [sic], though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.

Should all these rumours turn out to be accurate, it is possible that Apple will use its traditionally iPod-focused September event to launch the iPhone 5.
