Microsoft suspends Windows Phone 7 updates to Samsung phones

Microsoft Windows Phone

Microsoft yesterday confirmed that it has temporarily suspended the deployment of its first Windows Phone 7 update to Samsung phones after users reported issues.

We’ve identified a technical issue with the Windows Phone update process that impacts a small number of Samsung phones. We’re working to correct the problem as quickly as possible. But as a precaution, we’ve briefly suspended updates to Samsung phones. We are continuing to update other Windows Phone models as scheduled.

Since the update was first released, Microsoft has found that over 90 percent of all users who received the update notification have successfully updated their devices. Of the remaining 10 percent, half failed due to either a bad Internet connection or insufficient computer storage space. I’m assuming that the other half are Samsung phone users caught out by that third issue.

Microsoft did not provide details as to when it expects to resume pushing out the update to Samsung phones.
