Despite earlier promises, Hewlett-Packard will not provide updates to webOS 2.0 for the original Pre, the Pre Plus, the Pixi, and the Pixi Plus. These older devices are simply underpowered for the latest version of webOS.
In an interview with Engadget, HP’s Jon Rubinstein did indicate that the company would do “something special” for the owners of these older devices. He gave no further details unfortunately. Could we see an upgrade that would deliver some but not all of the webOS 2.0/2.1 functionality? Or will HP give discounts to existing users to upgrade to the HP Pre 3 or HP Veer?
Let’s hope that HP soon reveals all the details…
