Nokia CEO denies Microsoft acquisition rumours

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop quickly stepped in today to quell rumours that Microsoft would acquire Nokia’s phone division. Speaking to Bloomberg, he called the rumours “baseless” and added “We have a great plan for our future, and we’re focused on executing that plan. The rumors are all over the place. There’s no basis for them.”

Elop went on to indicate that the relationship between Microsoft and Nokia was focused on smartphones and that it made no sense for Microsoft to enter the entry-level mobile phone market. He described the current partnership as “the most effective way for the companies to work together.”
