OECD finds Canada has highest international data roaming fees

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has found that Canada has the highest international data roaming rates in the 34 OECD countries. It found that it Canadians pay US$24.61 for 1MB of mobile data (used in a single day) when traveling internationally. The average across the OECD countries is US$9.48. On the other end of the spectrum, Greeks traveling abroad pay the least (US$4.17).

Canadians fared better on longer trips. For example, Canada placed fifth-most expensive when the OECD looked at the cost of 5MB of data over 5 days.

In general, the OECD called all prices “high” and suggested that “Current pricing levels indicate that there is, in general terms, either insufficient retail or wholesale competition.”
