Production to begin on Amazon tablet device?

Amazon

Digitimes is reporting today that Quanta has received orders from Amazon to build a tablet device (the Kindle tablet?). Quanta could manufacture up to 800,000 units a month with shipments to begin as early as the second half of 2011.

Amazon’s tablet device is expected to use Google Android and leverage a number of Amazon services like its new Appstore and Cloud Drive digital music locker service.

Digitimes reports that the device will a fringe field switching (FFS) colour LCD display with touch panel from E Ink Holdings (EIH), the company behind the Kindle’s e-ink display.

The Kindle tablet would likely be offered as a higher-end device with the Kindle with its greyscale e-ink display remaining as more of an entry-level product.
