RIM given temporary restraining order on use of BBX trademark

Research In MotionYou have to wonder if and when Research In Motion will be able to catch a break. Shortly after RIM unveiled its new BBX operating system, Basis International filed a trademark infringement complaint against RIM. A US judge has now granted Basis a temporary restraining order, preventing RIM from using the BBX name.

In his ruling, US District Judge William P. Johnson wrote that consumers would be “likely to be confused by RIM’s use of BBX in connection with RIM’s goods and services.”

In response, RIM issued a statement indicating that it will “use the ‘BlackBerry 10’ brand name for its next generation mobile platform.” It would appear that RIM will not pursue this further.
