Samsung Apps store tops 100 million downloads

Samsung today announced that its Apps store has now topped 100 million downloads. Accessible from both smartphones (5 million bada devices were shipped in 2010) and web-connected televisions, it reached this milestone in less than one year (having launched in June 2010 along with its bada-powered Samsung Wave smartphone).

Samsung Apps is available in 120 countries but some 40 percent of downloads came from France, Germany and Spain. It features some 13,000 apps.

Samsung does not expect that things will slow down either. “”We are anticipating that Samsung Apps will show a rapid growth in 2011,” Samsung said as it prepares to launch a number of new bada devices.

As a comparison, the Apple App Store recorded a million downloads in its first weekend and had topped a billion downloads in less than a year.
