Samsung Galaxy S II to launch in US in August

Samsung Galaxy S IIThe Samsung Galaxy S II will make its North American debut tomorrow here in Canada. A US launch date has proven more elusive though until today when Shin Jong-kyun, president of Samsung’s mobile business and digital imaging, confirmed that the US launch will occur in August. “We expect to release the Galaxy S2 in the U.S. market sometime in August,” he said during a media briefing.

Leaked pictures suggest Sprint will carry it but it may not be an exclusive. Its predecessor was carried by a number of US carriers (albeit under different names) and we could see a similar approach again.

Samsung sold some 3 million Galaxy S II smartphones in the first 55 days alone. It remains to be seen how much this tally will grow with US sales with the expected imminent launch of Apple’s next iPhone.
