TBaytel rebrands 3G HSPA+ as 4G HSPA+ network

TBaytelWith the loosened rules around the definition of 4G, it’s no surprise that carriers are rebranding their HSPA+ networks as 4G networks. The latest to do so is Northern Ontario’s TBaytel.

“Other carriers within the Mobility industry with networks similar to Tbaytel have chosen to refer to their respective networks as 4G,” said Don Campbell, President & CEO Tbaytel. “In order for consumers to accurately compare Tbaytel’s network to those of other carriers, it is important for Tbaytel to follow suit and rename its network accordingly.”

“The network itself remains the same and is merely a network reclassification by the ITU,” added Campbell. “This reclassification will have no impact on the customer experience. Tbaytel continues to evolve its network in 2011 in its capabilities, speed and regional coverage.”
