Microsoft may have inadvertently revealed that the first Windows Phone Mango devices (perhaps the four spotted yesterday at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference?) would launch in September. Speaking at Imagine Cup competition earlier this week, Ballmer indicated that the next generation of Windows Phone devices would be out in time for the holidays. An Imagine Cup tweet today suggests that it could be quite a bit earlier:
#ImagineCup finalists ALL receive Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Release!! Each student will get the phone by September!
Would Microsoft provide the finalists with devices that have yet to be announced? That appears unlikely and instead suggests that the new devices will be announced before that.
The tweet also suggests that Microsoft will go with 7.5 as the version number for Mango.
