Windows Phone 8 could include a radically different software keyboard when it is launched later this year. The new design, revealed in a leaked Microsoft Research presentation obtained by WMPowerUser is reminiscent of the keyboard layout Microsoft first toyed with for ultramobile PC devices (UMPCs) a few years back. The curved layout is designed for one-handed thumb typing:
Other soft keyboard layouts for other languages could also make their way into Windows Phone 8.
Microsoft last year revealed that it was working on a “one handed and next gen soft keyboard” for Windows Phone 8. It did not unveil any such keyboard at its recent Windows Phone Summit when it unveiled some of Windows Phone 8’s features. Is it one of the features it did not reveal?
