Facebook CEO dismisses mobile phone rumours

FacebookFacebook today reported its first ever quarterly earnings, reporting revenues of US$1.18 billion. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg:

“Our goal is to help every person stay connected and every product they use be a great social experience. That’s why we’re so focused on investing in our priorities of mobile, platform and social ads to help people have these experiences with their friends.”

On the earnings call that followed, Zuckerberg dismissed rumours that the company was building its own mobile phone: “Building our own phone won’t make much sense for us.” Instead, Facebook will continue to work with smartphone manufacturers like HTC as well as “supporting Apple and working closely with them.”

Facebook also announced that it now had 955 million monthly active users. It also has 543 million mobile monthly active users, a 67% increase over the last year.
