Huawei to unveil Ascend D2 flagship and WP8 Ascend W1 at CES 2013

HuaweiHuawei was among the manufacturers named by Microsoft when it announced Windows Phone 8 last summer. Huawei even indicated that its first smartphone powered by the new OS would launch by the end of the year. We will instead have to wait until early next year for a formal announcement.

Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Yu Chengdong has confirmed on Chinese-language Weibo that the manufacturer will unveil the Huawei Ascend W1 at CES 2013. Based on earlier rumours, it will be an entry-level device powered a 1.2GHz processor and with a 4-inch WVGA display, 512MB RAM, a 5MP rear camera, a 3MP front camera, and a 2,000mAh battery. It will also have 4GB of onboard storage. The Ascend W1 has also been the topic of leaked images and press shots.

Yu also indicated that the company will reveal a new flagship device called the Ascend D2, likely the successor to last year’s Ascend D quad. The Google translation is very poor but suggests that Ascend D2 might be yet another smartphone with a 5-inch 1080p display.
