The latest iPad, the ‘new iPad’, appears to be Apple’s latest hit product. Unveiled on Wednesday, Apple confirmed today that stock set aside for pre-orders is now sold out. “Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased,” a company spokesperson said. “Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date.” This delivery date now shows as no sooner than March 19th in the U.S. and “2-3 weeks” weeks out in Canada.
The announcement suggests that the traditional customer lineups on launch day and even days/weeks afterwards will once again take place as Apple tries to keep up with demand. It remains to be seen whether Apple will set new sales records as well although that “off the charts” comment suggests that this is a done deal.
Key new features in the ‘new iPad’ are a high-resolution display, more remory (a rumoured 1GB), a faster A5X processor sporting a quad-core GPU and LTE connectivity.
