Nokia PureView technology coming to Windows Phone Lumia devices

PureView 41MP camera sensorA highlight from this year’s Mobile World Congress was the Nokia 808 PureView with its 41MP camera sensor. The downside for many was that the Nokia 808 runs on the Nokia Belle OS (Symbian). Now comes word that Nokia will bring its PureView technology to its Windows Phone Lumia devices. Confirmation came from Nokia’s VP of Marketing Jo Harlow in an interview with Finnish newspaper Aamulehti.

Asked about a timeframe, Harlow indicated that it will “not take very long.” Could Nokia be planning to add PureView to Windows Phone 8 (codename Apollo) which is expected to be out by the end of the year?

With smartphones increasingly used as consumers’ primary camera, a Nokia Windows Phone with PureView technology could be a significant competitive edge. Even if future devices use a smaller sensor, the technology should still provide better quality pictures than a camera with a comparable sensor but no PureView.
