Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 does a poor job of melting butter

The Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset is regularly among the top chipsets in benchmark results. Not only does it display impressive speed and pack integrated LTE connectivity but Qualcomm has put together a video to show that it’s also the coolest – literally. The harder the processor has to work, the hotter it gets.

The more demanding these tasks, the harder the powerful processor works. That can result in excessive heat, which can result in lower performance and reliability issues. Over time, excessive heat can also be damaging to components, especially the battery. The hotter a device gets, the more it degrades battery capacity.

Qualcomm did not overlook thermal efficiency when designing the S4 chipset. As a result, the chipset runs cooler than its competition. To illustrate this, Qualcomm performed an unusual test: It compared how quickly three different devices, powered by different chipsets, could melt butter.

The test does not reveal what competitors the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 faced off against. It may not be the most scientific test out there but it is far visually effective than comparing thermal image maps.
